Wicomico Public Libraries (Downtown, Center & Pittsville) are in need of dedicated, hardworking and friendly volunteers to help us in the following areas:
General Volunteer Opportunities - Includes shelf reading, restocking materials and material maintenance (i.e. DVD cleaning, or bookbinding repairs). Straightening, alphabetizing, cutting scrap paper, organizing DVD collections, creating packets, children and youth program planning. Work includes prolonged sitting, as well as moderate lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, pulling and pushing activities, and clear speech. Opportunities available at Downtown, Centre & Pittsville Branches.
Homework Help Center - Volunteers are needed to help students in grades K-12 with their homework. This includes using computers, tutoring, and helping to create school projects. Bi-lingual skills are a plus! Opportunities available at Downtown and Pittsville Branches.
Job Search Center - Volunteers needed to help assist patrons in filling out online applications, writing resumes and cover letters. Provide informal instruction to job search patrons in accessing and using computers; assist with organizing displays.
Project READ – Volunteers for adult literacy coaches must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing in English. They must also be willing to tutor an adult learner twice a week (90 minutes each session). Volunteers must submit to an interview with the Project READ Coordinator and the Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers must also participate in an initial training/orientation session.
Friends of the Library - The Friends of the Library host many different volunteer opportunities including the in-house bookstore, the Bookshelf, Fall & Spring book sale, special events and community outreach.
Teen Summer Program - Teen volunteers 16 and older are needed to help with special programs, as well as assisting with the Summer Reading Program. This opportunity is only available from June – August.
